The 4-1-1 on Online Advice
Be careful where you look for college life survival tips.

 Printer view

When you get to college, you're likely to use the Web for all kinds of research.

But what about turning to the Net for "personal research"? You know, finding help for those common, everyday conflicts and problems, like an annoying roommate, an overwhelming workload or homesickness. You're sure to find helpful advice online, right?

Well, if you plug the words "college life" into your favorite search engine, you'll get a lot of sites that look promising. We checked out a bunch of them, and most of them get mixed reviews.

The main problem is that almost all of those sites are created from a distinctly non-Christian point of view. For every bit of good advice, you'll also find advice about sex and drinking that clearly comes from a secular perspective.

Our advice? Don't lean on random searches for personal help and guidance. Instead, check the websites of the Christian colleges you're considering. Each of those sites includes information about life at that particular school. Second, check out a couple of online sites we know you can trust for solid information on college life. We'll start by giving ourselves a pat on the back:

campuslifecollegeguide.com
At this Campus Life site, you'll find a wealth of good advice about life at college—academics, relationships, roommates, social life, homesickness, spiritual growth and much more.

Flip through the issue you're now holding in your hand. This is the type of stuff you'll find on the Campus Life College Guide site. Think of it as a "bulked up" version of this issue—all this, plus a whole lot more.

rwuniversity.com
The site name attached to this URL is Real World University. And we were psyched to find this gem among all the other not-so-helpful sites. Real World University's creator and webmaster are both born-again Christians, and the site is full of solid, practical advice from a Christian perspective.

Maybe the coolest thing on the site is a page in the "Campus Ministry" section called "Gaining Salvation," which tells the reader how to become a Christian.

Be sure to check out the "College Life Survival" section, which includes such topics as "Listening to God," "Strengthening Your Faith," and "Facing and Resisting Temptation."
